As I’m sure you can tell from the title, I was planning to write this post over a week ago. I just never seemed to have enough time. Now that I’m sitting at work at 7:30 AM on a Saturday, I’ve finally decided to make time.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a general life update, a fact I expect to remedy today. Hopefully once I’ve rambled on for a while, you will be more lenient with the static state of my blog for the past two months.
As I look back at the last two months, I see a vast sea of interesting reviews, random tidbits, and brilliant ideas that all wanted to be posted. However, they were all obliterated by time-sucking powers of major event planning. So, without further ado, on with the major events update!
Major Event One: We’re house shopping!
Our lease is up on June 28 and we are looking for a house. In fact, the process is moving fairly quickly, because yesterday we submitted an offer on a house. We’re still looking, but Dustin and I both really like this house. Since the house is in pre-foreclosure, and has been for a while, we wanted to make an offer before it went all the way into foreclosure.
Based on our experience, I have created this easy-to-use translator from Realtor-speak into English.
- “Backs to greenbelt” => Backs to land otherwise uninhabitable by humans. This includes, but is not limited to: railroad tracks, creeks, water retention areas, flood plains, and jungles.
- “Cozy” or “Cute” => Tiny. Really, really tiny.
- “Needs some TLC” => It’ll probably be ok if you remodel the entire thing.
- “Bring your handyman” => We’re not sure how it’s still standing.
For those of you who haven’t had the chance to purchase a house, let me tell you that it is both exciting and terrifying. It’s exciting to think about all of the possibilities, and it’s terrifying thinking about all of the “what ifs?” that seem to come from every corner of your traitorous brain. I imagine it must be a lot like getting married, which leads me to:
Major Event Two: We’re getting married! (no, really, we are)
Dustin and I have finally set a date for our wedding. Well, kind of. :) We’re getting married either September 3, 4, or 6 in fabulous Las Vegas! September 6 is our “antiversary”, six months from March 6, which is when we started dating. That would be cool, but it means our families would need to take some extra time off, so right now September 4 is looking the most promising.
While we are getting married in Vegas, we are NOT getting married in “Elvis’ Chapel of Love” or anything similar. We’re going to have a traditional ceremony, probably in one of the nicer hotel chapels. We haven’t decided on the exact location yet, but I’m leaning toward the Luxor because the hotel is nice and the wedding package price is reasonable.
We also haven’t decided on a guest list, but since it is a destination wedding, probably only our close family would come anyway. We may have a party here in Austin after we get back and we’ll probably do the same in Rogersville over Thanksgiving. That way anyone who
thought they were off the hook missed the wedding can watch it on video!
Major Event Three: Work!
Being go-live coordinator for your group is not good for your heart. :)
