So Proud!!

A man in a red kayak on a wide river with a large metal bridge and the MO capitol building in the background.
This great pic thanks to my sister-in-law!

My brother pedaled and paddled his way across the entire state of Missouri this week, and I’m so proud of him! He completed the MR340, a race on the Missouri River that starts in Kansas City and ends in St. Charles, and he not only finished, but he also finished fourth in his division!

Did you know some kayaks have pedal drives? I didn’t until this week, lol.

If you’ve read Eclipse the Moon, you might’ve noticed that I dedicated the book to my “favorite brother,” which is something of a running joke between us since he’s my only sibling. I’m also his favorite sister (most of the time 😂), and I couldn’t be more proud of him.

Fantastic job, baby bro! 🎉

Eclipse the Moon Spoiler Discussion

If you’ve already read Eclipse the Moon and want to discuss it, this post is for you! Spoilers ARE allowed, so if you haven’t read it yet, you may want to hold off on scrolling down.

You’re welcome to ask me questions, and I’ll do my best to answer. It feels like I wrote this book an age ago (or maybe I just aged a lot this year 😂), but I’m still pretty sure I remember what I wrote… maybe. ;)

For real, though, I love Kee and Varro, and I hope you loved them, too!

Last chance to turn back before spoiler town.

Seriously.

Spoilers ahead.

Okay, everyone who is left, have at it! 🎉 And thank you all so much for your support! 💕

Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with an exciting new novel about a rainbow-haired female bounty hunter tasked with preventing an interstellar war.

Kee Ildez has been many things: hacker, soldier, bounty hunter. She never expected to be a hero, but when a shadowy group of traitors starts trying to goad the galaxy’s two superpowers into instigating an interstellar war, Kee throws herself into the search to find out who is responsible—and stop them.

Digging up hidden information is her job, so hunting traitors should be a piece of cake, but the primary suspect spent years in the military, and someone powerful is still covering his tracks. Disrupting their plans will require the help of her entire team, including Varro Runkow, a Valovian weapons expert who makes her pulse race.

Quiet, grumpy, and incredibly handsome, Varro watches her with hot eyes but ignores all of her flirting, so Kee silently vows to keep her feelings strictly platonic. But that vow will be put to the test when she and Varro are forced to leave the safety of their ship and venture into enemy territory alone.

Cut off from the rest of their team, they must figure out how to work together—and fast—because a single misstep will cost thousands of lives.

Now that I’ve gotten the server all fixed up, I’ve opened up a Scrivener file and started poking at an idea I had last fall. When I originally wrote it, it was fantasy, but I’ve recently thought I could shift it to sci-fi, so it could go either way.

I still adore the 5k I wrote last year, so I’ll probably keep working on it for a bit to see if I can develop it into something marketable. Book three of Starlight’s Shadow ended well (eventually), but it was a slog to get there, so I’m enjoying this time where I’m not under a contracted deadline to have some fun. There are a lot of things I probably should be writing, but a new shiny story is always a little magical.

This story, if it happens, will be very loosely based on Beauty and the Beast, which means it’ll probably end up nothing like the original because I never quite know where my stories are going to take me. Hunt the Stars was pitched as like The Mandalorian, and yeah, maybe if you squint, but mostly it went its own way.

But for now, I’m taking a long weekend because Mr. M is off today. Happy Fourth of July!
