Borderlands, Plants, and Theater

I had a restful weekend. I’m about halfway through copyedits, so I took the weekend off. I’m still trying to remind myself that work-life balance is a thing, and just because I’m behind on everything doesn’t mean I have to work all the time.

On Saturday, Mr. M and I used the outdoor ceramic cooker my parents brought us to smoke a pork butt. It took most of the day and we had to babysit it, so we played Borderlands 3 all day. It. Was. Awesome!

We did take a break in the middle of the day, once we’d transferred the pork to the oven, to go for a walk and enjoy the nice weather. The trees are going crazy even though we’ve been having some late-season cold. This tree was more berries than leaves.

Our new neighborhood is much hillier than our old neighborhood (which was basically flat), so walking and running are far more challenging. And any direction we pick, there are hills. Some are bigger than others, but there’s no avoiding them. If I keep it up, I’m either going to be in awesome shape or dead. 😂

On Sunday, I started the day with a yoga class with my BFF, then Mr. M and I headed to a nursery to pick up some plants. He is starting a garden this year and I went along for moral support. :) He was there for veggies, but I took pictures of some of their beautiful flowers.

Sunday night, BFF and I had theater tickets to see Come From Away. Thanks to a series of unfortunate events, we were about 15 minutes late. Thank goodness our seats are near the edge. 🙈

Even missing the first couple of songs, the show was incredible, easily one of the best of the season. If you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it!

Now I have to finish CR copyedits, start writing (again) TQT, and continue to noodle on the new series. It sounds so easy all typed up in a single sentence, but reading it causes me to break out in hives, lol. I hope you all had a nice weekend!

  1. I’m glad you’re working on the ‘work/life’ balance. Because as much as I love reading your books and want more! Now!, you need to enjoy writing!
I don’t know if the copyedits are stressful, but the end goal is another wonderful book.
    Thank you!

  2. Ooh, I loved Come From Away! Saw it maybe 15 months ago. I saw it with my daughter and what I found very interesting was that we had different perspectives on it. She loved it as well, but because she was born well after 9/11, it didn’t have the same visceral impact for her. That date is history for her, and I lived through it.

I’m going to see Hamilton tomorrow..for the 4th time. Little bit obsessed.

Glad to hear you had a relaxing weekend. I live in San Francisco so I scale hills daily and really, everyone who lives here has reasonably bulky calf muscles…

  3. Writing is soul depleting. In fact, any artistic endeavor is.

You should find that taking breaks that rebuild your soul helps rejuvenate your writing ability because your soul isn’t as empty.

Good luck with the edits this week! I am so glad you had a wonderful weekend.

  4. That’s an awesome weekend 🤩
I spent the last to weekends with family, it was pretty awesome too 🤭
    Courage for work !

  5. It’s odd to know that, “Come From Away,” is being performed in Texas,,, truly odd.
I’m old, so a different generation altogether from yours, but I was born and raised in Newfoundland, and CFA has never been a compliment from the mouth of an elderly Newfoundlander, so it seems a bit peculiar to me when I hear they not only called a play that, but took it around the world. :-)
If you ever get to visit the island, it is truly an experience worth having, but if someone calls you a CFA, tell them at least your ancestors were not Hangashores and smile.
