Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with an exciting new novel about a rainbow-haired female bounty hunter tasked with preventing an interstellar war.

Kee Ildez has been many things: hacker, soldier, bounty hunter. She never expected to be a hero, but when a shadowy group of traitors starts trying to goad the galaxy’s two superpowers into instigating an interstellar war, Kee throws herself into the search to find out who is responsible—and stop them.

Digging up hidden information is her job, so hunting traitors should be a piece of cake, but the primary suspect spent years in the military, and someone powerful is still covering his tracks. Disrupting their plans will require the help of her entire team, including Varro Runkow, a Valovian weapons expert who makes her pulse race.

Quiet, grumpy, and incredibly handsome, Varro watches her with hot eyes but ignores all of her flirting, so Kee silently vows to keep her feelings strictly platonic. But that vow will be put to the test when she and Varro are forced to leave the safety of their ship and venture into enemy territory alone.

Cut off from the rest of their team, they must figure out how to work together—and fast—because a single misstep will cost thousands of lives.

Read the first chapter!

  1. I’m currently enjoying playing Zelda Breath of the Wild, specifically the side quests. Also just jumping of mountains and sailing around to avoid enemies is fantastic.

  2. I really enjoyed rereading comfort fiction recently. Lots of you, Ilona Andrew’s, and the Scholomance series getting ready for the conclusion of the trilogy.

  3. I have been very much enjoying the current UK series of Taskmaster. There’s just something so satisfyingly absurd about it.

    1. I’ve been enjoying watching Dr Who with my dad. Almost done with the 12th and then finally onto 13!

  4. SUZANNE B ROTHCHILD

Since childhood I have been a voracious reader. I am currrently re-reading Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy in preparation for their new release RUBY FEVER. I have been living vicariously through my friends’ dogs and their videos, all the while dearly missing my fur-kid who crossed the Bridge in December 2020.

  5. I finally had a moment to sit at my sewing machine again and create a new little drawstring bag from some beautiful blue ombre fabric that reminds me of a starry nighttime sky.

  6. Jenn Stark released a new first book for her Immortal Vegas series, and I’ve shamelessly used this as an excuse to re-read all of the IM books and the sequel series Wilde Justice. It’s a lengthy endeavor so I’ve stalled and stalled for years, but the new book rocked and I’ve always wanted to read them a little slower to enjoy more details as opposed to gobbling them up in three hours 🙈 so I’m enjoying finally going through them all again

  7. Recently I got really into the alternate universe space drama For All Mankind after I activated a six month AppleTV+ subscription that came with my PlayStation 5, and now I’m re-watching after having only just watched it for the first time like a week or two ago because season three is around the corner. It’s just so good, and I’m hyped for more in just a few more (damned) hours.

  8. I just found Stardew Valley and have been getting to play with family members on other continents – we live almost as far away as you can get for the next couple of years (although not quite as far as we would if we were in another galaxy!) So I also love getting to play with family.

  9. I have been enjoying the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series by C. S. Harris. It is a great mix of spy/political thriller and murder mystery with interesting characters.

  10. The Psy-changeling series! I read 18 books from this series last month and regret nothing. The books just keep getting better.

  11. Just finished reading *Lessons In Chemistry* by Bonnie Garmus. Flew through the book, it’s been awhile since I enjoyed a book that much. At least until your next one is released.

  12. I’ve been re-reading Ilona Andrews Innkeeper series while waiting for the next book in your Starlight’s Shadow series. It’s fantastic!

  13. I’ve really enjoyed finally getting to take my kiddos to their first theme park! With the past few years being a mess I’ve put it off but finally a chance came up and we all had a blast!

  14. I have to say that I am finding joy from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It’s taking me back to my classic Star Wars lobe! I love the new Star Wars “stuff” like The Mandalorian, and I am an Ahsoka fan, but this is rocking my Star Wars roots.

  15. I’ve recently retired and am enjoying doing absolutely nothing and anything I want to do. Quilted a puff baby blanket for an upcoming birth.

  16. I really enjoyed going to Star Wars Celebration a couple weeks back! It was such a fun environment to be in and I’m excited to see what Lucasfilm has coming next.

  17. I’m enjoying self care in the form of re-watching my comfort shows (psych and community) and reading romance novels.
Thank you for the chance! Can’t wait to read this!

  18. Recently I’ve been enjoying getting back into my hobbies like crocheting! I have been learning how to make crocheted shirts and sweaters!

  19. I’ve really been enjoying the start of my photography traineeship! The offer came out of the blue and has led to some really incredible learning opportunities. I even get to fly a drone (and haven’t crashed it yet 😉)!

  20. Finally got a vacation after almost two and a half years. Went to Seattle for the first time and got to enjoy Mt. Rainier National Park . Also got to spend a few days in one of my favourite cities, New York, and enjoy some Broadway and good food. Luckily was able to do lots of reading while waiting to travel again 😀

  21. I’ve been enjoying a 2 week break from volunteer and extra responsibilities! It’s been great going on extra dog walks and reading!

  22. I don’t know if I enjoyed it, exactly, but I was recently awed by reading Rebecca Solnit’s Call Them by Their True Names. What brought me joy today was hearing my kiddo’s violin lesson. This musician mama is proud as can be!

  23. I have been enjoying the longer days of sunlight and the spring weather. I love being outside with my dogs and the weather is perfect for that right now.

  24. I’ve been enjoying watching Dr Who with my dad. Almost done with the 12th and then finally onto 13!

  25. My boyfriend and I have been watching It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, me for the first time, and it’s pretty great.

  26. I just discovered Michele Notaro’s Magi Accounts series, and I can’t wait for the rest of the series! 2 books are out (plus one Magi Accounts companion novella) Fast-paced MM urban fantasy featuring great characters, magi and shifters, cool magic system, and wonderful found family. (Pls note: intended for adults, check trigger warnings before reading)

Thanks for the chance to enter the ARC giveaway!

  27. I really enjoyed Our Flag Means Death recently (not the finishing part, more please!) I am loving Charlie Jane Anders’ Unstoppable series, having finished Victories Greater Than Death and started Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak.
And one daughter just finished her PhD :-)

  28. Everything everywhere all at once was truly transcendent. It’s out on streaming now and I can’t wait to watch it many more times!

  29. I just watched the premiere of the Ms. Marvel TV show last night and adored it. It’s relatable and has a super-fun energy. It visually shows Kamala’s daydreaming and fangirling in a creative way. I’m also looking forward to her cosmic adventure in the Marvels movie.

  30. I’ve really been enjoying the game Horizon Forbidden West. This series is hands down one of the best and most beautiful games I have ever played! I could play it for hours!

  31. I just finished Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez. This is the first book by her I have read and really enjoyed it. I got all the feels!

  32. I’ve been enjoying so many good books this summer! I loved Part of Your World, Kaikeyi, Lessons in Chemistry, The Hacienda, and Kagen the Damned. My TBR list is amazingly long, and I don’t have a chance in hell of finishing it ever, but the challenge of trying is the best part!

  33. I’ve been enjoying bullet journaling to keep track of everything I have going on, and recording some of my experiences in writing. It’s been a long time since the last time I kept a paper planner or journal, and it is fun to curate my custom collections – such as a list of upcoming books I want to read and their release dates!

  34. It’s been raining a lot where I am, so when the sun is out, I make an effort to sit in the sunshine and read (or do my cross-stitch) <3 Also getting joy from being goofy and exchanging memes with my family in our group chat.

  35. I redid my guest room into a office / art studio for my work. I moved a big comfy chair to the window. In the morning I sit there with blankets coffee and my tuxedo cat 🐈‍⬛ Toby while reading. The sun warming us both. It is truly my happy place. I have struggled with metal health issues for a long time and I never thought I’d know contentment like that.

  36. I just watched the first episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds last night. I love all things Star Trek (except maybe the “Enterprise” series with Captain Archer, I couldn’t get past his too stupid to live ego and attitude!), so I’m really looking forward to bingeing the rest of episodes to date over the weekend!

  37. For the first time since the pandemic started, we visited my brother and sister-in-law in San Francisco – we had such a great time visiting with my wife’s family, spending time wandering through Golden Gate park, eating at some truly fantastic restaurants in SF and making sand castles on the beach at Crissy Field.
Another source of joy: watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I also just finished reading Emily Henry’s latest novel, Book Lovers and I am re-reading All Systems Red by Martha Wells.

  38. I just adopted a rescue kitten who is so much fun. I originally named him Clancy but because of his meows, his nickname is Ducky! Thank you for this chance, I love your books!

  39. I’m finishing up a knitting project, but I’m a very very slow knitter! Also trying to restart walking for exercise, hard to do when it’s triple digits though 🥵

Very excited about Eclipse the Moon, can’t wait!

  40. So excited about this book! I’m at the beach with parents, sister and her kids this week! The ocean is my happy place!

  41. I just started Singapore Sapphire by A.M. Start, a Harriet Gordon Mystery. And have almost finished Fair Trade by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. I am currently watching the mystery series Shakespeare and Hathaway.
Thank you for this giveaway opportunity.

  42. Hunt the Stars is (so far) my favorite read of 2022! I got the book via bookish box. It was something I never would’ve picked up for myself, but I ended up LOVING IT! So of course I had to go buy all your other books 🤣 currently enjoying Aurora Rising.

  43. I’m currently really enjoying the Quatrefoil Chronicles duology from Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz! My favorite read of 2022 so far is The Angels of Elysium series by Wildenstein, but I really loved Hunt the Stars as well and can’t wait to jump back into that world. You did an amazing job of world building without it bogging down the story, which was fantastic!

  44. I just finished reading Book Lovers by Emily Henry a while back so I really enjoyed that one! Also, finally went traveling for the first time after the pandemic 😆
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  45. I have been reading Hunt the Stars which I’ve been enjoying alot. I read the Consortium trilogy first- that was very fun! Also I have been listening to an audiobook version of “The Intimacy Experiment” which is a fun and different romance. Makes my commute time much more interesting.

    1. Though I mentioned a few things I enjoyed a long time ago and a few things I am looking forward to in my earlier message I should mention I’m really enjoying the Lost in Space series on Netflix. The family aspects + robot + adventure have been a great escape for me and my mom while grieving for my dad who passed away exactly a month ago. The show is heartwarming, very real and a stunning piece of Space Opera for me and my mom to enjoy. *I’m not trying to enter twice. Please disregard my first invalid comment.

      1. Michael, your first entry was valid because it wasn’t a reply. This comment is a reply, which doesn’t count, so I’m leaving both comments for now. If you want to repost this as a top-level comment (not a reply), I’ll delete the others.

  46. I had my second baby on May 16th and I’ve been enjoying the snuggles! 🥰 Looking forward to having something good to read while I’m up all night nursing 😆

  47. I am enjoying my trip to Seattle to visit my daughter and where the weather is so much cooler than Texas right now!

  48. I recently saw a post on FB for Polaris Rising – and nearly bought it again just because I absolutely loved it! It was really the start of my love of space opera – especially with a strong female lead. This year I’ve re-read The Consortium Rebellion series, and Hunt the Stars (of course), then T.A. White’s Firebird Chronicles. I’ve just finished the second book in Amanda Bouchet’s Endeavour Trilogy – eagerly awaiting the last book. So many good books to read! Have no idea what I’ll read next – might have to start at the beginning again…

    1. TA White’s Firebird Chronicles is one of my favorite series!! Are you excited for the new book in August?

  49. I have been enjoying my plant propagation glass bulbs. I just ordered a second set for my office. Pothos for everyone!

  50. I’m enjoying several things, for several senses – ripe, juicy cherries, strawberries & blackberries; vine ripened tomatoes; apple blossoms (just finished); lilacs, irises & lily of the valley (flowering now); following various serials like the latest Innkeeper by Ilona Andrews and your Hunt The Stars. I’m looking forward to booking some time glamping as soon as my daughter finishes an archeology class.

  51. I have been enjoying Ilona Andrews’ Sweep of the Heart serial, the current Wano Country arc in the One Piece manga, and Jason Porath’s Rejected Princesses. Thanks for the reminder to think about things that bring us joy!

  52. I’ve been enjoying playing waffle, a new-to-me word game. It’s sorta like wordle, but with 6 words instead of just 1.

  53. I’ve been watching the Netflix show Sex Education and totally enjoying it. It’s not normally the type of TV show I watch, so it’s taken me by surprise.

  54. I’ve been enjoying Sweep of the heart, by Ilona Andrews, every friday and Kiss Hard by Nalini Singh. And lots of cuddles from my cats in the evening and through the night (I would post a picture of them if it was allowed ;)).

  55. I just went to the coast and enjoyed the beach and time with my S.O. I live in Oregon so it was cloudy and cool, but that’s just what my Oregonian heart wanted.

  56. I’ve been spaceballs crazy about Space Opera for months now. Most of the Space Opera I’d previously read was old school stuff like Star Wars, Dune, Asimov’s robot series, Leigh Brackett’s Eric John Stark novels, David Brin’s Startide Rising, Neal Asher’s The Gabble, etc., but there was a story I read (I think) by Gene Wolfe about a human and his alien dog-like companion that stuck with me and made me very interested in not only a re-read but finding stories in space with dog or pet companions and why I’m so very interested in reading Abbott in Darkness by D.J. Butler and your Hunt the Stars & Eclipse the Moon. AND.LOVE.THE.COVERS !
*btw did you know the first version of Star Wars, Star Wars: The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Luke had a dog?

  57. Hi Jessie,
I’m so excited for Eclipse the Moon, I’ve already read Hunt the Stars several times.

I have just started my research project in my MSc Microbiology investigating at bacteria that infects horses, pigs, HIV/AIDS and transplant patients. I absolutely love it. It’s so much fun to be a researcher. I love being in the lab and working on new and exciting things.

I would love to win an ARC.

  58. I just saw Paul McCartney in concert last night and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to! Total highlight of the summer.

I’m very excited for this story to come out and to learn about Kee’s journey!!

  59. I traded in my 18-year old car for a new one. I was afraid that it would break down and there may not be parts to get it fixed. I had to replace a 6-year old washer with a broken door, because the model was discontinued and I couldn’t find a replacement door.

  60. I have been enjoying my new espresso machine. I’ve made some epic messes and had a few hilarious catastrophes, but it’s been fun to learn to make my own fancy coffees and to not have to make a 20 mile round trip drive to buy it!

  61. Hi,

I’m entering as an international reader and the last thing that brought me joy was the following : I’m a developper and I recently changed job which lead me to learn new skills (a new language and new framework).
At first I was always behind and I struggled with all the new concepts but last week I realized that I’m now able to create things from scratch and can review what my colleagues are doing and it was such a relief. At last i’m getting it :D !

  62. We are a member of the Goldsboro Books (UK) Prem1er Book Club and have really enjoyed getting new books every month from authors that are outside our norm. This month is the Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesly and we are really excited!

  63. I’ve enjoyed sleeping of late.
We have two children under the age of four and it’s exhausting, especially in Covid times when they’re unable to be vaccinated. We can’t go to a lot of places and usually turn down social invitations. :( One day we’ll have friends again. But until that point, I cherish every two hours of uninterrupted sleep.

  64. I’ve just gotten home from a 2 month trip. Traveling was fantastic, but I’m really enjoying being back home and seeing my local friends again!

  65. My name is Kiri, and my most recent amazingly blissful joy was leaving snowy freezing Maine in February, flying to the Big Island in Hawaii, and enjoying my brother’s wedding in Pepeekeo in paradise! Couldn’t stop grinning ear to ear, so much bliss, joy, love and beauty!

  66. I went back swimming today after years of not practicing and the smell of chlorine to me is such a “Madeline effect” that it took me only an hour to be “back in the saddle again”!

  67. Hi Jessie,
I’m currently reading a series of books called the Invisible Library, and it’s amazing. At about an inter dimensional library and it’s badass librarians who steal books from alternate worlds. I’m loving it!!!

  68. I read an amazing book called The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa. The author truly captured the voice of a cat and this is a story that will make you laugh out loud and cry.

  69. I spent a few days out in the woods with my dog and read “the Midnight Library” by Matt Haig which was checked out from my local library!
P.S. The Consortium Rebellion series is still my favorite series. 💜

I’ve been really enjoying reading the last book of Annette Marie’s Steel & Stone series, with daemons, magic, legendary creatures and more!

  71. I tried pilates for the first time this morning with some girlfriends. Felt so good to do something good for my body and with my people, despite the awfully early hour they wanted to do it. :)

  72. I have a goal to practice yoga once a day. My teacher sends out a calendar with links to her various practice videos – one to do each day. I’ve always wanted to do the month, but something or other always comes up and I miss a day, but this month I’ve been going strong! I’m excited that I’m sticking to my goal and really proud that I’m able to carve out a little time each day to practice. Fingers crossed I make it the rest of the month!

  73. I bought patio furniture for the first time. I am enjoying sitting in my rocking chair on my porch with a cup of coffee and watching the sun rise.

  74. My son is home from school and I enjoy spending time with him. On the weekends friends come over and play games with us. I enjoy that too.

  75. Based on your recommendation, I just finished Winter’s Orbit, by Everina Maxwell, which then led me to Behind the Throne, by K.B. Wagers – both are amazing books with rich world-building and incredibly compelling characters. I also really love the LGBTQIA* diversity – neither book shoves it in your face, it feels much more naturally integrated.

  76. I have a week off from school so I’ve spent my time spring cleaning and I have enjoyed it immensely. I went a little nutty and completely emptied out my garage before reorganizing and putting things back and now when I walk into my clean garage, I get a burst of serotonin. Is this what it means to be an adult? because I’m here for it.

  77. Abra Staffin-Wiebe

I’ve been enjoying Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy series! Recommended for your fans… Great family characters, romance, magic, and action-packed.

Any chance you would have your made in webtoons format? They are so fun!

  82. I just finished building my cat a cat tree. It was so great to take a drawing I did on paper and creating a finished product he enjoys!

  83. Hello!
I really have been enjoying watching The Boys on Amazon Prime. Supernatural was one of my favorite shows, so as soon as I hear Jensen Ackles was going to be in the third season of The Boys, I had to start watching!

  84. I just totally loved watching the series “Heartstopper” on Netflix. I binged it and just smiled. I also recently went to Disneyland and that always makes me happy especially getting to see the Main Street Electrical Parade again.

  87. This day I enjoyed having a good night sleep, getting my quilttop ready for the quilting part, the blooming flowers in my garden.
