As a reminder, I’ve partnered with BookPeople to offer signed copies of ETM (plus backlist books!!), so if that’s something that interests you, get your orders in now because a lot of my previous books are on backorder with a 7-10 day lead time.

And I was too braindead during the last blog post to mention it, but the first fifty-ish ETM preorders from BookPeople will come with a bookmark and stickers! The bookmark is the same one from the HTS release, but the stickers are different. :)

Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with an exciting new novel about a rainbow-haired female bounty hunter tasked with preventing an interstellar war.

Kee Ildez has been many things: hacker, soldier, bounty hunter. She never expected to be a hero, but when a shadowy group of traitors starts trying to goad the galaxy’s two superpowers into instigating an interstellar war, Kee throws herself into the search to find out who is responsible—and stop them.

Digging up hidden information is her job, so hunting traitors should be a piece of cake, but the primary suspect spent years in the military, and someone powerful is still covering his tracks. Disrupting their plans will require the help of her entire team, including Varro Runkow, a Valovian weapons expert who makes her pulse race.

Quiet, grumpy, and incredibly handsome, Varro watches her with hot eyes but ignores all of her flirting, so Kee silently vows to keep her feelings strictly platonic. But that vow will be put to the test when she and Varro are forced to leave the safety of their ship and venture into enemy territory alone.

Cut off from the rest of their team, they must figure out how to work together—and fast—because a single misstep will cost thousands of lives.

Read the first chapter!

  1. I’ve been enjoying all the pride content on Hulu!! Specifically Fire Island- I laughed until I cried and I know some of it is niche humor but oh my god you gotta watch it. They’re such a cute group of friends and I LOVE a pride and prejudice story. I just reread Hunt the Stars- I CANNOT WAIT for eclipse the moon to come out!!!!

  2. Been on a sci/fi & fantasy reading kick this year … read most of the backlists of Jessie Mahalik, Michelle Diener, P. Djeli Clark and Arkady Martine.
Currently working on Anne Bishop’s The Others series waiting on new releases from my favorites

  3. I just started watching Ms. Marvel. It’s so cute and really reminds me of Turning Red in that they are both so clearly teenage experiences that are universal.

  4. I’m very much enjoying the new Inkeeper release which is weekly published, one chapter at a time, by Ilona Andrews. Thanks a lot for the first chapter of Eclipse The Moon! I loved the first book of the series and I can’t wait for the next one.

  5. Really been enjoying Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series. So much humor mixed in with a fascinating plot!

  6. I’ve been listening to audiobooks while driving, gardening, housework, sewing. Gone through the Consortium Rebellion, most Hailey Edwards and Meghan Ciana Doidge books. My current Fav is Graphic Audio’s version of Ilona Andrews Innkeeper series. (Saving new books for my vacation next month)

  7. I’ve really been enjoying reading Dracula for the first time through Dracula Daily! Bram Stoker’s Dracula is apparently an epistolary novel – it’s entirely made up of letters, diaries, telegrams, newspaper clippings – and every part of it has a date. The whole story happens between May 3 and November 10. So Dracula Daily posts a newsletter each day that something happens to the characters, in the same timeline that it happens to them. It is very fun to read this classic novel emailed to me in real-time as it happens. It’s like having Jonathan Harker and the other main characters as pen pals!

  8. Our village held a party to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, and we dressed in red, white, and blue, ate roast beef and Yorkshire puddings, and had loads of fun. It was a great night.

  9. I’ve been enjoying Podark on Masterpiece Amazon Prime Video. It’s my second period series after finishing Bridgerton (Sanditon was my first and so enjoyable as well!) I’ve also been listening to Slouch Witch by Helen Harper on Audible and it’s making me laugh. Those, combined with the Merge Mansion game app and playing with my toddler and 9 month old have kept me going until this book comes out! Can’t wait!!!! ❤️😘😊

  10. The newest season of Bridgerton is easily my favorite TV show I watched recently! I also just got a promotion at work so that’s been super exciting.

  11. While waiting for your new release I’ve been rereading Dorothy Sayers murder mystery Peter Whimsey series – specifically Gaudy Night – one of my favorites. Excited for Eclipse of the Moon :)

  12. The birds at my bird feeder! Watching them sing and bounce around each other brings a smile to my face every morning!

  13. I have been absolutely loving the short mini-series Critical Role: Calamity – it is a streamed D&D game with insanely talented people playing!

  14. In April, I vacationed in Portland and went to Powell’s Books, where I also happened to buy a copy of Hunt the Stars. Also, I recently read Master of Djinn and enjoyed that. So 2 great things enjoyed in the last couple of months

  15. I’ve joined a group called “Action for Happiness” that regularly offers donation-optional zoom sessions on improving one’s quality of life. After I attend the events, I always feel so much more hopeful and calm. Love it. (Shameless plug: they have a free app.)

  16. Finally getting to enjoy some sun and warmer weather (up in northern Alberta) which means time spent outside getting flowers planted and welcoming the birds back. Yay for longer days filled with light!

  17. I mastered knitting a 3 colour striped sock with helical knitting (and a good tutorial). So far one sock is done. Winter has arrived so I am justified in curling up with a book and cup of tea. I’ve been reading through Jackie Lau series – they’re low angst romances and fun to read.

  18. I have really loved rewatching The Staircase with my sister (her first time watching it) and talking about how the entire case was mishandled! I cannot wait to make her watch other true crime documentaries with me. It is getting me through the winter.

  19. What’s bringing me joy right now is the linden trees blossoming all over town. I live in Berlin, where one of the big historical streets in the middle of town is called Under the Linden, so it’s a big deal here. I love the smell of them and I love how the whole city is going to be perfumed for the next week or two. I just can’t get enough.

  20. The covid period had been difficult and I abandoned many hobbies, but a few months ago I started swimming twice a week. It is still hard to wake up a little extra early for that but it is so rewarding. It is so relaxing and meditative, and I get points for doing some sport! This is what gives me joy these days.

  21. Something I’ve enjoyed recently … taking my dog for long walks on the nearby public trail and now that Covid is waning … see more people out and smiling and speaking to them as they also use the trail.

  22. I’ve been re-reading Tanya Huff’s Confederation of Valor and Peacekeeper series while I impatiently await the Eclipse the Moon release – I love a good space opera/military sci-fi with a strong female lead! I’m waiting until closer to the release date to re-read Hunt the Stars and I HAD to find something to fill the between-time.

I’m also ridiculously excited about the patio we’re starting to install under our back deck this weekend – I can’t wait to have a big BBQ party in the back yard!

  23. Last week I got to participate in a chalk art festival for the first time! I picked up drawing on my driveway with chalk during the pandemic while my two boys rode on bikes around me, and now it’s turned into this fun hobby.

At this festival, I drew two baby elephants in the rain, one playing with a butterfly under an umbrella, and the other splashing in puddles and wrote “FIND YOUR HAPPY”. The best part was when moms would bring strollers of babies by and they would yell out “Lelephant!”

  24. I have been in fandom overload lately with Our Flag Means Death, Stranger things 4, and Heartstopper. Heartstopper especially is one of the most delightful pieces of media I’ve seen in a long time.

  25. I’ve enjoy knitting – I recently finished a sweater using a colorway called “the lonely mountain” and it’s my favorite thing I’ve ever knit. I can’t wait until fall days so I can wear it!

  26. I’ve made some new friends in Elder Scrolls Online, and have been enjoying playing with them. We’ve been doing trials, dungeons, and all sorts of things.

  27. I’m at SoulPlay, a festival full of dancing hippies, and everyone here meets your eyes. Hugs with strangers are happening literally all the time. There’s been a queer dinner, a BIPOC pool party, and cuddles. After two years of fear, this outdoor dance festival makes me so happy that my heart could burst.

  28. Book wise, I just finished reading The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang and I am still reeling from that ending, but I liked it anyway? Apparently I enjoy being tortured. Book three of the Poppy War series is definitely going to end me.
As for TV, I just finished watching Moon Knight on Disney+ and I loved it. I hope they make another season. Oscar Isaac is the cat’s meow!

  29. I’ve dived into volunteering at a community garden. It’s so satisfying to watch things grow and learn how to garden. Also started meditating and it’s helping me concentrate.
Currently listening to Mariana Zapata’s wall of Winnipeg.
Really excited for your new book!

  30. I have been enjoying pick-your-own strawberrying with my girls. There’s not much yummier than a strawberry fresh off the plant, and the summer sun makes me happy :)

  31. I’ve been watching each new episode of Strange New Worlds as they come out. So good!!! I highly recommend to everyone.

  32. I have been enjoying Sci-fi books lately. But honestly? The things I’ve been enjoying the most is getting ready for VACATION!!

  33. I recently was able to go on a long vacation. Lots of swimming, hiking, eating, and relaxing. It was a really nice to finally be able to take a long break.

  34. I’ve been enjoying the longer days of summer, the green hills outside my windows, and the birds. I am still cautious about covid but I’ve been enjoying outdoor activities on the weekends like going to the beach and a nearby outdoor “safari” (really 90% goats).

  35. I’ve been enjoying my time finishing grad school! This is my last semester and instead of burning to get through it, I’m trying to enjoy learning and the end of the process before I stop school for the last time. It’s been a gift being in school again in my thirties and I greatly appreciate more now than I ever did before.

  36. As a school teacher this year has been particularly rough one; but I am been happy seeing the joy of my first complete class getting ready to graduate high school after everything they have been through the last couple of year. And finally seeing my ninth graders start taking school seriously!

  37. I really enjoyed ‘First Kill’ on Netflix. It’s one part teen drama with lesbian romeo/juliette (complete with one character being named Juliette) and one part cheesy syfy quality show. It is an absolute trip with some really high quality acting. It isn’t super great on the plotting and pacing, but it’s so much fun to watch.

  38. Been enjoying re-reading some of my less-recently-read ebooks lately, particularly the Edge series by Ilona Andrews.

  39. Really enjoyed the first episode of Ms. Marvel but the main thing I’m loving right now is valor by John Gwynne. He’s my go to right now for Fantasy novels.

  40. In books, I just finished Siren Queen by Nghi Vo and thought it was great. My kiddo and I are watching Obi-Wan Kenobi and we’re enjoying that a lot.

  41. Competence p0rn: Leverage. Kit Rocha’s Mercenary Librarians. (Your books.) Ilona Andrews’ Innkeeper serial. Give me all clever protags who get stuff done.

  42. I finally started watching Stranger Things and I understand the hype now. The acting is really good, and the mix between horror/suspense/action is exciting!

  43. Becky Chambers’ The Galaxy, and Ground Within (final book of her Wayfarer series). The whole series is excellent, but this 4th book is particularly good at making me feel better when the pandemic and/or other events make me want to crawl under the bed for several hours.

  44. My friend brought a bunch of us to a bakery I’ve passed but hadn’t visited. Turns out it’s a fantastic, feminist, inclusive space with the best almond croissants I’ve ever had. We meet there at least weekly now!

  45. Taking short daytrips to sightsee at places close to home – I just got used to doing this instead of far away vaccations during the pandemic and now enjoy it a lot.

  46. I’ve been reading a lot of audio books during my work commutes. Currently listening to Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series. The longer the series, the better, as I have a hard time finding authors and narrators that work. The Consortium trilogy is one that I also love.
