NaNoWriMo 2017

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). It’s a month-long event where the goal is to write at least 50,000 words of a novel. For some genres, 50k might be an entire novel, but for a lot of adult fiction it will be half or two-thirds of a novel.

I love NaNo because it gives you permission to make time to write for an entire month. Sometimes all you need is a nudge to get that novel you’ve always wanted to write started. Plus, there are generally tons of meet-ups where you can write with like-minded people who will support and encourage you (and you can return the favor).

This year, I’ll be writing as a NaNo rebel. My goal is to write at least 25k words, split between the serial and book two.

I have done 50k twice in the past, but that’s a little fast for my natural sloth-like writing pace, which leads to massive edits. While it’s easier to edit something than nothing, I find a lower daily word count works better for me overall. And Polaris Rising edits are due to land soon, which will wreck my new word count.

If you’ve always wanted to write a novel, I encourage you to do NaNoWriMo this year. Now is your time to shine! Create an account, dive into the forums, and soak in the joy of doing something crazy, but crazy awesome.

Who’s participating, either as a rebel or by-the-book?

    1. I’m planning to start posting The Queen’s Gambit serial story this month, so you’ll be getting something, though maybe not what you were hoping for. :)
