New Server!

Now that I’ve turned in book three, I’ve started working on all the admin tasks I’ve put off forever—specifically, updating the web server. The old machine served me well, but it was time to update to the latest and greatest. You shouldn’t see much change on your side (hopefully!! 🤞🏻), but the backend tech stack was upgraded and the server IP address changed.

And the site may be down a bit more than usual this week, because at a certain point I just said YOLO and switched over the DNS, which means I’m now testing in production. Whee!

To test a little more, here are a couple pictures of the animals taking advantage of the water bowl I put out. It’s been super hot and dry here, even more so than usual, so I put out water for our local deer, but we’ve had a few other visitors as well. :)

The pictures are a little blurry because I pulled them from a video, but there’s a fawn and a coyote!! This is the first time I’ve seen a coyote in our yard, though I hear them in the valley behind our house all the time.

We’ve also seen a fox and raccoon, but I forgot to save the videos. 😭

Do you have wildlife where you live? We mostly have deer (So! Many! Deer!), but thanks to the water bowl, I’m seeing a lot of other critters!

  1. Mostly we have opossums, deer, raccoons and cats running around the neighborhood.

Hope this message finds you well and writing more… will love to get your book!

  2. We see wildlife in abundance. I live in southwestern Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains. We have had deer, of course, wild turkeys, raccoons, foxes, skunks, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, and bears. Fortunately the bear doesn’t visit too often. We took down our bird feeders. It was too tempting for the bear. We hear coyotes but have never seen any.

  3. I live in a subdivision so all I have are chipmunks, squirrels and lots of bunnies! My dogs get very excited when they see any of them.

  4. Congratulations on turning in book three.
My bird baths and water bowl seem to attract morning doves, house finches, snails, and cats. I know there is a squirrel in the neighborhood but I haven’t seen him in my small condo backyard.

  5. Ooh that fawn is so pretty! We have feral cats who roam our neighborhood, thanks to our next door neighbor who feeds them (and does TNR when necessary). We have named them all. Gopher holes sometimes but never seen a gopher. Rats but not too many; see cats above. Nice birds including bushtits, hummingbirds, and Stellar Jays (sp?). Fierce and aggressive raccoons. A couple years ago we had a coyote, who tore up and destroyed our whole irrigation system.

The coyote was fascinating because we live in the middle of San Francisco, actually in the city proper. We do have large parks here though, so presumably Mx. Coyote was trotting over from one of those.

Congrats on book 3! So so so looking forward to Eclipse the Moon!

  6. Living in the northern suburbs of Dallas, our main wild life are rabbits and squirrels. We do still get the occasional bobcat though it is getting more rare as new neighborhoods build out North of ours.

  7. Raccoons! If you have them they will take advantage of open water to wash their palms. My parents also left out cat food and grapes for the raccoons (faaaar out in the country, so not trash pandas. :P). Even birds will wash if the pan is big enough.

  8. Living in the East Bay, across from San Francisco, we have Coyotes, Bobcats, mountain lions, turkeys, ducks, geese, racoons, jack rabbits, cotton tails, skunks and of course lots and lots of birds and squirrels and ground squirrels etc..
:) I love seeing the local wildlife.

  9. I live on the other side of the world to most of you who’ve posted. Deep in the Australian bush I have wallabies, kangaroos, wombats and lots of lizards.
