Today dawned cold and dreary, which makes me even happier that we spent the weekend at Enchanted Rock with sunny, 85°F weather. We almost didn’t go because the rain forecast was more than 50%, but my optimistic husband talked me into it, and I’m so glad he did. It sprinkled on us a few times, but mostly the weather was lovely.
Also, because it’s in the boonies, we didn’t have cell service, which meant a weekend away from being constantly connected. It was awesome. I am tethered to my phone as much as the next person, and there were a few times I would’ve liked to post a photo to social media, but overall, it was nice to disconnect.
Plus, look at this amazing campsite we snagged.
The wind on top of the rock was fierce. All of the photos are terrible because my clothes are plastered to me. Here’s one from before we started climbing. Notice the crazy hair because the wind was from behind and I couldn’t keep my hat on.
We had a really nice time, though I’m getting too old to sleep on the ground, sleeping pad or no. When we returned home, I immediately starting searching for a thicker sleeping pad. We car camp pretty much exclusively, so why should I use a backpackable pad when I could have a heavy, luxurious option? :)
For the record, my husband doesn’t love my “take everything including the sink” approach to camping, but even he agreed that a new pad may be in order. ::rubs hands:: Next REI coupon, luxury will be mine.
How about you? Did you do anything fun this weekend?
