Book Two Title Redux

The working title we decided on for PR book two has to change because it’s too similar to another Voyager book coming out next year. So it’s back to the drawing board.

Boo.

I like for my titles to have a deeper meaning, even if I’m the only one who will get it. It’s one of the reasons naming things takes me eons.

The verboten title had that extra layer of meaning, so I bid it adieu with some regret. And now I can’t think of anything else I like as well. Partially that’s just my brain being stuck on what it can’t have, and I have some time, so I’m giving my subconscious a chance to mull it over.

I passed 20k words last week, and while I’d like to be closer to 30k (or, let’s be honest, 90k), I’m at least off to a solid start. This is also where doubts tend to assail me and I start thinking that the beginning is all wrong. However, there is no time for doubting. I must forge ever onward. If it really is wrong, I’ll fix it later. …

Book Rec: From Lukov with Love

I am the ultimate fair weather sports fan. I watch one football game a year, become a hardcore soccer fan once every four years, and only notice gymnastics and figure skating when the Olympics roll around.

Well, in case you were living under a rock, the Olympics did roll around this year, and I watched far more figure skating than I probably needed to, but I loved every second of it.

So that got me thinking about figure skating romance books. There had to be some, right? I briefly considered writing one before I remembered that I didn’t write contemporary or really know anything about figure skating.

Luckily, a kind soul on Twitter pointed me to From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata. …

Edits, Salt Lake City, and a Book Rec

I’m still deep in edits for Polaris Rising and will be for a while. I know I’m supposed to be all jaded and cynical and tired of looking at it, but I love this book to pieces and I can’t wait for you all to read it. Even reading and revising it for the umpteenth time hasn’t dimmed my enthusiasm.

In other writing news, I sent off my XPRIZE short story, Materials Girl. It clocked in at 3,967 words, just 33 words shy of the 4k limit. Concise I am not. I had a lot of fun writing it, but I’m realistic about my chances of actually winning—let’s politely call them “slim.” :)

Yesterday I spent the day buried in laundry so I will have clean clothes to pack for a business trip to Salt Lake City. I’ve never been, so if you have any recommendations of what to see or where to eat, I’d love to hear them. I won’t have a huge amount of time to sightsee, unfortunately, but I’m going to sneak in what I can.

And finally, today is the release day for Tessa Dare’s The Duchess Deal. First, a disclaimer: I haven’t read it yet. Amazon isn’t delivering my copy until tomorrow and I’m terribly sad about it.

I normally wouldn’t recommend a book I haven’t read, but I love Ms. Dare’s books and I was hooked from the first chapter she posted on her site. I’ve been waiting impatiently for the release date. RT also gave it 4.5 stars and made it a Top Pick. If you like historical romance, you at least owe it to yourself to check out a sample.
