Capture the Sun ARC Giveaway!

I can hardly believe it, but we’re just about a month away from the release of Capture the Sun on June 20! It seemed like a few of you might be up for an event, so I’ll be doing a signing at BookPeople on June 25 at 7:00 PM. I’ll do a short talk about something—probably writing related, but who knows, it’s release week, after all—then there’ll be a Q&A, and I’ll sign/personalize books.

I might also read a scene or two, but with the way I get nervous about public speaking, it might sound like an audiobook set on 2x speed. 🙈

I hope I’ll see you there, but if you can’t make it, you can still order signed and personalized books from BookPeople!

As you probably know, Capture the Sun didn’t get printed ARCs this time due to costs. But my fabulous editor sent me four bound manuscripts to give away, so you know what that means: ARC GIVEAWAY TIME!

Want to read Capture the Sun before June 20? Enter to win one of four ARCs.

These aren’t the typical prerelease books because they were printed and bound in-house, but there are literally only five of them in the world (that I know about) and you get a chance to win one of four! They may not be quite as nice as a typical printed ARC, but they are super exclusive. Ooooh. :jazz hands:

Also, if you win, you’ll get to read the book early. :)

If you haven’t yet, now is an excellent time to get your preorders and library purchase requests in!

Capture the Sun Cover, featuring a man and woman in silhouette against a fiery orange sun with a futuristic city in the background.

Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with the thrilling conclusion to her Starlight’s Shadow trilogy. An intergalactic thief must join forces with the charming teleporter who stole her last job—and may now be her only hope for saving her former crew.

As a recovery specialist, Lexi Bowen’s jobs typically require more trickery and thievery than honest work. Her former captain might not approve of her flexible morals, but stealing artifacts for rich assholes pays the bills, and Lexi’s had enough of war and death. The FHP left her to die once; she doesn’t plan to give them a chance to finish the job.

Unfortunately, her latest contract takes her to Valovia itself—and right back into the orbit of Nilo Shoren, a Valovian teleporter who already cost her one payday and nearly stole her heart.

Armored against his clever charm, Lexi plans to get in, get the job done, and get out. But when her former crew goes missing in Valovian space, Lexi will have to work with Nilo to figure out what happened—and stop it—before the galaxy’s two superpowers can use the disappearance as an excuse to return to war.

Love in SFF Virtual Panel on Wednesday!

Virtual Author Event Wednesday, November 2, 6PM CST

This Wednesday, Nov 2, at 6PM CST, I’ll be doing a virtual panel with C. L. Polk and S. L. Huang all about love in SFF! This is a subject near and dear to my heart, so I’m super excited! Tubby & Coo’s Mid-City Book Shop is hosting the event, and you’ll need to register to join.

The bookstore is asking that you either buy a book or make a donation (as little as $1) to register, but if that’s outside your budget, you can email the events coordinator and they’ll get you an invite for free, no questions asked. Details are on the page.

Now I have to go work on a newsletter because Honor and Shadows is out tomorrow!

Y’all, I can’t believe it’s almost November. 😭 For those of you in the US, please remember to vote. Early voting is happening now in TX and probably some other states, so do your research and then go vote. This is especially important for local races for things like school boards. Book banning is going to continue unless we do something to stop it, and your vote really matters locally.

And finally, Happy Halloween! May your day be filled with candy and adorable costumes. :)

Livestream with Kit Rocha and Jeaniene Frost Tonight!

Kit Rocha in conversation with Jessie Mihalik and Jeaniene Frost. Wednesday, September 8, 7PM Central.

Tonight, Jeaniene Frost and I are joining Bree and Donna (aka Kit Rocha) for an event to celebrate the release of The Devil You Know! I love Jeaniene’s books and you know I love Kit Rocha’s books, so pardon me while I fangirl for a second. 🤩😍

We’re going to talk about kickass female leads, mercenary librarians, and wherever else the conversation takes us—an event with Bree and Donna is always fun! Tubby and Coo’s is the hosting bookstore, and you can find more information on their site. They also just weathered Hurricane Ida, so if you can, pick up a book or two while you’re there! :)

Individual event links aren’t up yet, but the stream is supposed to be simultaneously broadcast on their Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as their homepage, so pick your poison and keep an eye on whichever you prefer tonight at 7PM Central.

When I get the direct links, I’ll post them to Twitter, so you can also follow me there. I hope to see you tonight!!

Bookstore Romance Day Virtual Panel

High Stakes / High Emotions with Everina Maxwell, Sharon Lynn Fisher, Jessie Mihalik, and Elizabeth Lim, 2PM ET, Sunday, August 22

This weekend is Bookstore Romance Day! To celebrate I will be on a virtual panel on Sunday, August 22 at 2PM ET with Everina Maxwell, Sharon Lynn Fisher, and Elizabeth Lim talking about writing books that combine high stakes and high emotions.

Sometimes love finds you at an unexpected time—like when you’re trying to save the world. Come listen to us chat about how we balance action and romance and why we’re drawn to books that combine both. I can’t wait, and I hope to see you there!

The event is free, but you do need to register and spaces are limited.

You should check out the rest of the panels, too, because the lineup is incredible!

Virtual Event with Everina Maxwell and Martha Wells

Everina Maxwell, in conversation with Martha Well & Jessie Mihalik. Hosted by Fountain Books. Sunday, Feb 7, 2021 at 2PM ET.

This Sunday, February 7, at 2:00 PM EST, I’ll be joining Martha Wells and Everina Maxwell for a virtual event to celebrate the release of Winter’s Orbit, hosted by Fountain Bookstore!

I’m a huge fan of Martha Wells’s Murderbot series (though I’m dreadfully behind on reading the last couple), and I’ve heard lots of good buzz about Everina Maxwell’s debut, Winter’s Orbit, so it should be a fun event!

You need to sign up for tickets to attend, but the general admission is free. If you can help support Fountain Bookstore by making a purchase, that would be awesome, too! I hope to see you there. :)
