Capture the Sun ARC Giveaway!

I can hardly believe it, but we’re just about a month away from the release of Capture the Sun on June 20! It seemed like a few of you might be up for an event, so I’ll be doing a signing at BookPeople on June 25 at 7:00 PM. I’ll do a short talk about something—probably writing related, but who knows, it’s release week, after all—then there’ll be a Q&A, and I’ll sign/personalize books.

I might also read a scene or two, but with the way I get nervous about public speaking, it might sound like an audiobook set on 2x speed. 🙈

I hope I’ll see you there, but if you can’t make it, you can still order signed and personalized books from BookPeople!

As you probably know, Capture the Sun didn’t get printed ARCs this time due to costs. But my fabulous editor sent me four bound manuscripts to give away, so you know what that means: ARC GIVEAWAY TIME!

Want to read Capture the Sun before June 20? Enter to win one of four ARCs.

These aren’t the typical prerelease books because they were printed and bound in-house, but there are literally only five of them in the world (that I know about) and you get a chance to win one of four! They may not be quite as nice as a typical printed ARC, but they are super exclusive. Ooooh. :jazz hands:

Also, if you win, you’ll get to read the book early. :)

If you haven’t yet, now is an excellent time to get your preorders and library purchase requests in!

Capture the Sun Cover, featuring a man and woman in silhouette against a fiery orange sun with a futuristic city in the background.

Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with the thrilling conclusion to her Starlight’s Shadow trilogy. An intergalactic thief must join forces with the charming teleporter who stole her last job—and may now be her only hope for saving her former crew.

As a recovery specialist, Lexi Bowen’s jobs typically require more trickery and thievery than honest work. Her former captain might not approve of her flexible morals, but stealing artifacts for rich assholes pays the bills, and Lexi’s had enough of war and death. The FHP left her to die once; she doesn’t plan to give them a chance to finish the job.

Unfortunately, her latest contract takes her to Valovia itself—and right back into the orbit of Nilo Shoren, a Valovian teleporter who already cost her one payday and nearly stole her heart.

Armored against his clever charm, Lexi plans to get in, get the job done, and get out. But when her former crew goes missing in Valovian space, Lexi will have to work with Nilo to figure out what happened—and stop it—before the galaxy’s two superpowers can use the disappearance as an excuse to return to war.

  1. Hi, thank you for the chance! I’m looking forward to getting a bunch of bookish tattoos this summer! I’m doing a whole sleeve of them on my arm, and so far I have four finished.

  2. I’m looking forward to watching my kids take steps into adulthood this summer. My oldest son is doing a study abroad program in London. (I’m sending my baby overseas BY HIMSELF!!) My younger son is doing a residential engineering survey program at the older son’s university and he was accepted for a health careers survey internship at another university later in the summer! The boys are busy and mom and dad are stuck at home!

  3. Thank you for doing this giveaway! I’m looking forward to my friend coming to visit in July to go to Ren Faire- we haven’t lived in the same state in 6 years, but we always manage to see each other a few times a year.

    1. My daughter is turning 1 in June! I’m so excited to celebrate with family and to see her grow into an amazing little toddler. Her party is the weekend after I have a HUGE deadline at work too. So I’ll have multiple things to celebrate! 🤣

  4. Jodi Taylor has a new book! The Good, The Bad and The History. I love her chronicles of St. Mary’s series.

  5. I am turning 40 this summer which is both exciting and terrifying! I’m celebrating by going going to the beach where I plan on spending the day on a chair under a big umbrella with a great book.

  6. I am looking forward to my college reunion. It only happens every five years and I missed the last one, so I am excited to see friends I haven’t seen in ages and be back on our college campus.

  7. Thank you! I’m looking forward to attending a couple of baseball games this summer. Go Jays go! 🇨🇦

  8. I am looking forward to summer vacation with my little humans: family vacation to eastern Michigan and maybe a dip in Lake Michigan (brrrrr)! There is a long drive involved, so lots of book time for mum (woooooo) while dad drives and the kids are hopefully entertained.

  9. I can’t wait for the snow to finish melting (I live in the Sierra Nevadas) so I can start planting my tomatoes and flowers. Of course I need to build a enclosure to keep the squirrels and chipmunks from sampling my efforts!

  10. I’m looking forward to driving up to the lake this summer. My kids love playing in the sand and water. It’s also really relaxing.

  11. I’m looking forward to the start of boating season (we belong to a boat club) and summer vacation for our kids. Lake life is the best life!

  12. I’m looking forward to spending time with my kids this summer and making it a special time before my daughter starts school for the first time—swim lessons, trips to the mountains, maybe some beach time, too!

  13. I’m looking forward to my birthday in 3 days! And also beyond excited for FFXVI! Will be taking a few days off work to immerse myself in the game ❤️

  14. June will see the release of two books I want. July we’re going camping. and August has three family birthdays in it! we’ll be quite busy. I’m also hoping to get the energy to purge some things around the house; 1. I don’t want to turn into a hoarder, 2. I’m going to try my hand at KonMari, and 3. we need to make space for hopefully adopting a dog by the end of the year.

  15. My sisters and I recently started a book group for ourselves, lovingly dubbed Bookish Banter. We are choosing a book to all read every month, and I am looking forward to what reading the rest of the year brings! We roll dice on a couple random charts to change up our selections, and Hunt the Stars was our April book. We have all become sufficiently obsessed :D

    1. Woo-hoo! I’m one of said sisters! And she is correct – we started with Hunt the Stars and are now on a mission to read all your books! 🤩

  16. Janette Gryniewicz

I’m looking forward to two events. A renfaire early next month, and a 1920s themed book event at the end of the month! I’ll be a vendor/author at both and I’ll get to see readers and friends!!!

  17. In late June, my wife and I are taking our 8 year old twins to our annual vacation to see her parents, who live in the south of France. We have a little over six weeks there. Our twins are enrolled in a beautiful and charming (and surprisingly inexpensive) summer camp near my in-laws house. We will be renting a house on the coast of Spain, overlooking the Mediterranean for a week. I have lots of reading planned. Also: my in-laws have a small bookshelf for our use, we keep a small collection of books in their house and Jessie, I have all of your books there. I look forward to adding CTS when we fly out next year. My wife and I will be definitely listening to the audiobook though when it comes out.

  18. Magic Claims by Ilona Andrews comes out next month and they are the reason I started reading your books. I keep rechecking both this book and Capture the Sun on Amazon and I keep getting reassured that I did pre-order them Months ago. Good reading times ahead!

  19. We are finally going on a trip we had planned to LA before Covid hit! My dad is a huge dodgers fan so we’re going to a couple of games and my husband has never been that far west before. I can’t wait!

  20. Oh my gosh, I’m so excited about this book. I can’t wait.

I love in the UK and I am going on holiday to Istanbul in September, I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve wanted to go for such a long time. I found out that Turkish, or Türkçe, is very different to English so I decided to learn Türkçe. I started last week I can say a few words and pronounce a lot of the alphabet.

  21. Looking forward to The Little Mermaid remake. Also Resonance Surge the next book in the Psy/Changeling-Trinity series,

  22. I’m super excited to be staff at a summer camp this year, and to dig into Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom!!

  23. This is awesome! Besides looking forward to CTS release I can’t wait for a family reunion for my moms side of the family that we usually have every 5 years but was postponed due to Covid! Will now be traveling back to NH and then up to our family property on Lake Champlain in Vermont :)

  24. I’m looking forward to whatever comes next…we’ve had so much change in our lives as a family this year that I’m just ready for the next chapter and hoping it’s a stable one. :)

  25. I’m going Yurt camping for the second time! Last time was mid winter so I’m eager to see if summer camping is better with its warm temperatures and less rain or worse with its too hot temperatures and more bugs. It will still be easier than tent camping and more comfortably rustic than renting a cabin, so that will be nice regardless.

  26. I’m looking forward to my daughter Natalie’s 2nd birthday in July! She’s getting so big and developing such a funny personality ☺️

As an aside – I found your book “Hunt the Stars” because I do a few book challenges every year. The prompt was to read a book by an author with the same name. I was SO excited to find a fellow Jessie (even spelled the same!!!) I ended up recommending your book to a reading group I started with my sisters (she commented on here too – we named it “Bookish Banter 🤓📚”) and we all read it at the same time. We are now tearing through all your books and bought them ALL through BookPeople for your signing next month! Thank you so much for these fun stories and characters you create ❤️

  27. I’m looking forward to buying a new house finally! My husband and I have been saving and fixing our credit for literally 10 years only to be confronted with these surging home prices here in North Carolina. I had to sell some land that was left to me to help with the humongous down payment required but hopefully it’ll all come together for good soon. Thanks for the giveaway chance. I love this series.

  28. I’m really excited to play Book Bingo! It’s a summer reading program for adults that Seattle Public Library runs each year, and it is such an awesome way to get introduced to books I might not have otherwise read. It’s a 5×5 grid with categories like “BIPOC poetry collection” or “recommended by an independent bookseller.” I play with my mom and sister every year :)

  29. The newest season of Outlander is ALMOST here, so I’m on the edge of my seat! Also, so many summer trips to Boston, Colorado and Europe ✈️

  30. I can’t wait to read this book, but I’m mostly looking forward to having my first baby due in August!! (Less excited about being pregnant all summer, but still thrilled!)

  31. I’m excited about this fall and coming winter s2. While this summer wasn’t as brutal maybe as usual, I still hate sweating, so I’m giddy about sweater season!

  32. I am excited to start a new job before next month and it’s also my birthday on the 19th of June. I had planned to go to a cat cafe on my birthday but sadly they are closed that day so I shall go the 20th to share my love with all the kittys.

  33. I am looking forward to attending LibertyCon in Chattanooga at the end of June, then on to Texas to visit my son and family. We will be celebrating grandson Eddie turning 2! And thank you for this opportunity!

  34. I’m very much looking forward to attending the Imaginarium Book Festival this month (hope you’ll consider joining the festival in the future)! And I’ve got some travel planned later in the summer, during which I hope I can tear through this trilogy while I sit in the sun by Gulf of Mexico.

  35. I’m excited for all of our summer plans, and I’m excited that we *have* summer plans 😆. We’re going camping, visiting family in Colorado, visiting Mt. Rainier, sending the kids to summer camps, and playing at the beach!

  36. We own some raw land some distance away (hoping to build our dream house) but up until now, there has been no vehicle access to it. The contractor just finished the access driveway so we are going out there next month and will FINALLY be able to drive onto it instead of having to climb down a steep slope and cross a gully.

  37. I’m honestly just looking forward to my kids being out of school and being able to spend some quality time with them without constantly running around. It feels like everything is in constant motion and I’d like to take some time to just breathe.

  38. I’m looking forward to taking our girls (2 & 4) on their first camping trip this year! Only traveling 1.5 hours away to the forests around Mt Rainier, but they’ve never been anywhere near there. Going to do lots of nature walks/hiking and splashing in the creek.

  39. I am looking forward to traveling to THREE family weddings, and traveling outside of the country for the first time in over 10 years :)

  40. My sister’s bachelorette weekend is in a few weeks! I’m the MOH and a total Type-A control freak so I planned the whole trip and even included some fun surprises for everyone (you should see my spreadsheets). Can’t wait to just sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor. It’s going to be an amazing pool-side weekend – I’ll be capturing some sun, myself! 😎 LOL With a fruity drink in hand, of course!

  41. I’m a music therapist and this summer I have the incredible opportunity to work at a week long intensive therapy camp for kiddos with disabilities in the gorgeous mountains of Colorado. We get to do camping activities as well as intense therapy and it’s always such a blast. This will be my fourth summer and I’m looking forward to it so much!! :)

  42. Hey!! I’m so excited to get another signed book from Book People from you! I’m looking forward to summer which is my favorite season! Also to when my daughter is out of school and we can sleep in. There are also quite a few special edition book boxes coming that I’m excited to receive. Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. So excited to read this book. Even if I don’t get an ARC I’ll still be buying! I am looking forward to taking my kids on small mini vacations this year. We usually do 1 big vacation, but with extra curricular activities my kids have going on this summer small 3 day weekend trips are what we have planned.

    2. Hi!! I am looking forward to laying on the beach and reading a ton this summer-also lots of hiking and hammocking. This is such a cool idea, thank you for doing the giveaway, you are awesome!

  43. I’m looking forward to reaping the financial benefits of picking up a ton of shifts so I have the money to not feel guilty taking time away to go swimming and garden and read the books on my side table! I don’t have many plans for the summer other than enjoying my time but I’m REALLY eagerly anticipating the time to focus on me.
Also I think this is the sweetest way to give away your precious few ARCs!

  44. What am I looking forward to, in the next few months? I hope to complete my goal of finishing 50 Half Marathons (foot races.) Since I am almost 70 years old, this is not as easy as it sounds. I have been working on this since before the Covid shut down several years ago; I have 2 races left. And of course, I look forward to reading Capture the Sun by one of my favorite authors.

  45. Well, since my son just left for a volunteeringjob in Peru last week, I really look forward to update his room and surprise him when he gets back in october. In the mean time I have some quilts to finish and the garden needs some me time.

  46. I’m looking forward to going on my honeymoon next month! We had to delay the trip, but I can’t wait to soak up the sun and snorkel all day in Hawaii <3

  47. I’m very much counting down to the release of Magic Claims by Ilona Andrews. I’m also super excited for a mini-vacation I’m taking to Victoria Island. I’ve been meaning to do this trip for 5 years, and I finally booked it!

  48. This is so exciting, I cannot wait for this book! For the summer, I am ready for my usual summer concert tours! I have a concert venue nearby and I usually see multiple shows there during the summer months. I actually start this weekend at a different venue with me getting to see Taylor Swift, but I have plans to see at least 4 other concerts during the summer months!

  49. Hi there!!
By the end of June I will have finished some major exams so I am SO incredibly excited to be able to just relax and read for the summer!! I read ‘Hunt the Stars’ last summer and LITERALLY fell in love. I read it while on holidays and I plan to do the same this time but reread and maybeeee tab and annotate a little this time!!!!!

  50. I am really excited that I’ve picked up knitting again after many years. I’m planning a trip to my local yarn store, Gauge Yarn, to refresh my stash. And always books. I am always looking forward to new books.

  51. I’m looking forward to my best friend getting to enjoy some financial freedom. She recently got a surprise inheritance from an aunt she only met once. She is one of the nicest, most helpful, charitable people I know and nobody in the world deserves something like that more. I’m looking forward to seeing her realize some financial independence.

  52. I think I accidentally responded to someone else haha but I’m excited for a new job opportunity and a nap 😅

  53. I am excited to complete a run I signed up for this weekend (and for all the many training kms to end!) and also a road trip with a friend next weekend (sun, fun and giggles)

  54. I’m excited for a summer of writing! It’s been a long year and having the time and space (and creativity??) to let my brain go for it is very exciting.

  55. I am very much looking forward to your new work! Thank you for all that you do and I definitely can’t wait to read! What else i’m looking forward to is lots of fishing and outdoor stuff over these next few weeks!

  56. Something(s) I’m looking forward to…reading this latest book! But also the improved weather in NY. Yellowstone returning! Ilona Andrews new book. Nalini Singh’s book in July. Lots of fun reading this summer!!!!

  57. Now that I’m retired, I’ve been enjoying doing nothing at all if that’s all I feel like doing! 😁 I’m getting plenty of reading done, playing games and quilting.

  58. I’m excited for the summer holidays and having fun with the kids and getting a bit of gardening done as well! Also have some lovely new books being released over the next few months to look forward too!

  59. This is so fun and thank you for the opportunity! I’m looking forward to an upcoming vacation with my dad – we were thinking Yosemite but with all the wild weather there lately we may end up going to another national park but will be fun where ever we go! :)

  60. I am looking forward to a vacation I have planned in June. Cannot wait to sleep in, sit in the sunshine, and do some reading.

  61. Hi! Well in terms of something I’m excited about coming up, I have a hiking trip planned in September to hit 4 Colorado State/ National parks with a friend! I will also add I too, am not a big fan of public speaking and just gave a training to all the top level management at my company (over 200+ people) and smashed it out of the park with only 20 minutes to prepare! I will probably go throw up now 😆

  62. I’m going to Steamy Lit Con this summer in Anaheim and I’m looking forward to that! I bought some House Andrews merch (the Cutting Edge/Kate Daniels sweatshirt with the cute monster) and I’m planning to wear it around the hotel. BDH represent!

  63. I am looking forward to eating apricots off of my tree. Very few things are better than a warm ripe Blenheim apricot right off the tree.

  64. I’m excited for summer berry season! I love baking, and summer means it’s time for perfect blueberry muffins, strawberry shortcake, and whole scores of scones and cobblers. :) I’m also excited for warm summer evenings so I can read books on my apartment balcony. I have a little table and chair set up there and I love watching the long sunsets while catching up on my books!!

  65. So excited for this. Congratulations.
I’m really excited for the excellent weather to start, it seems we’re having a third winter and a half when I should be filling my bag with books and heading to the beach. Hopefully, it will be soon. Tired of the moody winter. I want a spaceship and join Kee’s crew. Maybe I just need her cookies.

  66. Hi! I’m so looking forward to camping with my family this summer, this is my last maternity leave and I’m really excited to spending hiking and swimming with my kids.
Ps if you read this comment and felt like continuing the consortium rebellion series, that would be great. I want to know what happens with a Ferdinand and Evelyn, and Bianca and Ian (my favourite book).

    1. I read all the comments. :) I would love to write some more Consortium books, but I’m not sure it’s in the cards. I’m glad you liked them, though, and yeah, I <3 Bianca, too! 💕

  67. My partner and I finally bought a house. Looking forward to adding our personal touches and making it our own. Also, try to snatch a few moments of reading time. Maybe even play a game or two.

  68. I’m excited for the annual family Fourth of July gathering and competition. This year’s game is based on the Amazing Race. Then later in July, I’m having bariatric surgery. I’m looking forward to being healthier and being able to enjoy walking in the summer.

  69. I’m so excited for the warmer weather! It’s been pretty overcast in Seattle and I am so happy we are finally getting some sunshine.

  70. I’m excitedabout this book, but also for my Summer holiday in June. Lots of reading and relaxing time awaits. There is also Diablo IV releasing in early June, soI might go on a gaming binge as well

  71. I am excited about a family vacation. We are going on a cruise. Definitely going to soak up some sun and relax!

  72. Let’s see… I’m super excited to just sit outside by the lake and melt in the glorious sun. I’m also excited to visit friends from college who I haven’t seen in AGES! And of course I’m excited for your new book! Thanks for continuing to write your books so I continue to get excited for them!

  73. If course I’m looking forward to reading Capture the Sun, and IA’s Magic Claims, and Martha Wells’ System Collapse (love Murderbot), but more than anything…

I’m looking forward to finishing cleaning out my dad’s house. He was a hoarder who passed away a year-and-a-half ago, after 52 years in the same rather large house. And since I have a full time job, and can only get to his house (300 miles away) every now and then, it has taken all this time to clean it out. And yes, I know there are services for this, but we found his original signed will in an unopened envelope in a paper bag full of years-old mail, and the pink slip for his car in the middle of a stack of phone bills, and a box of old silver dollars (!!!) at the back of a bookcase, and a bunch of stuff like that, so it’s hard to imagine having someone else clean it out! We have a POD coming over Mem Day weekend for the stuff we want to keep, and that’s going to be it – the end of the gargantuan task! It will be such a weight off both my psyche and my time.

This has definitely motivated my husband and me to start cleaning out a bunch of our old junk since we don’t want to tag our son/DIL with having to do it.

  74. I’m looking forward to getting together with family the end of June to celebrate a graduation.

  75. I’m really looking forward to Indiana Jones 5 and taking my boys to see their first Indy movie in the theater (we still have an amazing drive-in theater in our area and my husband and I have so much fun sitting on lawn chairs not-so-discreetly drinking a beer while the kids get crazy on soda.)

  76. I’m looking forward to two weeks in Hawaii! And reading the newest releases from my favorite authors: you, Ilona Andrews, TA White, Honor Raconteur & KM Shea to name a few…

  77. Looking forward to the book on June 20 – my birthday!! I’m also looking forward to going on our Alaska cruise in July! We’ll be going with friends and family so it should be a fun time!

  78. I’m looking forward to hopefully finding a job and starting to treat my insomnia and migraines!

  79. Looking forward to a lot of things this summer, but the top two have to do with family: my niece is coming back from London in June for her master’s graduation ceremony, and my baby sister will be visiting from France in July!

  80. I’m looking forward to building a new raised garden bed because we never can have enough veggies / plants. My daughter actually wanted me to plant the entire backyard in broccoli but where would the dog run? Plus I like herbs, snow peas, chard, spinach, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, etc. one has to watch out for mint, sage, and zucchini as they are prolific but I like them.

  81. I am looking forward to my students’ exam being over on Tuesday so I can relax and get ready for summer.

  82. I’m so looking forward to seeing Hamilton in Auckland, New Zealand next week! My daughter and I tried to get in to see it in New York five years ago but no luck. This trip has the added bonus of me seeing two of my (adult) children who I don’t get to see very often because they live 7 and 9 hours away from me. It’s going to be an awesome trip!
